Generating a striking AI face takes minutes. Generating the four hundredth image of that same face, in a new city, in different light, at a different angle, wearing something new, and having it still be unmistakably the same person, is the problem the entire field is organised around.

Humans have dedicated neural machinery for face recognition. It is unusually precise, largely unconscious and highly sensitive to small deviations.
